What is a "fog sealing" and why is it necessary? |
It is a vapor barrier or fiber seal applied to the surface of a newly constructed base or sub-base course which limits the evaporation of moisture from these courses. This prevents shrink cracking and promotes strength gain by hydrating dry chemical additives such as cement during the required curing period. |
Inclement weather does not effect the soil stabilization process other than an interruption of work during heavy rain periods. Water does not effect any partially completed roadway, and construction may begin immediately after inclement weather passes with no regard for hauling additional soil, as rain water will not wash away a partially stabilized roadway, nor "leach-out" any soil admixture previously installed and not yet completed for compaction and final grade, if the correct application procedures are followed (CLICK HERE). |
Local citizens, school buses, mail delivery vehicles, and emergency vehicles, may continue to use the partially completed roadway without undue delay or inconvenience. As there is no erosion during rain storms, there is no silt wash into local water ways. Should any of the admixtures wash into the roadway drainage ditches, no harm is done as all the admixtures are environmentally safe, non toxic, and are also non-corrosive to equipment and vehicles. As the admixtures dry clear, there are no unwanted damages or black spots on vehicles, nor tracking onto adjacent driveways, etc. Additional features include a dust and mud free project where traffic may be maintained while the roadways are being constructed. |
